Kiel Week 2021 opened in Schilksee: This year’s Kiel Week was officially opened by Prime Minister Günther on Saturday afternoon in the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Center.
A little smaller than actually planned and significantly smaller than normal: As in the previous year, the Kieler Woche opened in Schilksee instead of the usual Kieler Rathausplatz. And instead of several thousand spectators, only a few hundred spectators were present at the Schilksee Olympic Center at the Olympic Port. While the Kiel Week 2021 will be smaller due to the corona, there were no major changes to the opening ceremony. Ship’s bell and typhon were ready on the small stage in Schilksee. Prime Minister Daniel Günther rang the ship’s bell (the so-called traditional bells) and the sailor Boris Herrmann operated the typhon, a blue ship’s horn.
