Note the signs: On Wednesday, October 30th, 2019 there is a weekly market on Kiel’s Blücherplatz – no parking on the entire square on Wednesday instead of Thursday as usual!

Anyone who lives at Blücherplatz or in the vicinity knows that there is a weekly market on Kiel’s Blücherplatz every Monday and Thursday. And on these two days, parking is prohibited on the entire Blücherplatz. If you still leave your vehicle on Blücherplatz the night before, you have to be prepared for the vehicle to be towed away.

Occasionally, however, a public holiday falls on a Monday or Thursday. Like this week, because October 31st, that is Thursday, is Reformation Day. And that has been a public holiday in Schleswig-Holstein since 2018. The weekly market on the Blücher therefore takes place on Wednesday, October 30th and not on Thursday as usual.

Corresponding signs have been in place at all access roads to Blücherplatz since at least October 25th, 2019.

And from these signs it can be seen that on Wednesday 30 October 2019 parking is prohibited on the entire square from 00:00 to 17:00.

Blücherplatz Kiel on October 2nd, 2019: More than 60 vehicles were towed away

It’s not that long ago that the weekly market on Kiel’s Blücherplatz was brought forward from Thursday to Wednesday due to a public holiday. At the beginning of October, October 3rd, the Day of German Unity 2019, fell on a Thursday and therefore the weekly market took place one day earlier. Apparently a number of vehicle owners had overlooked this and more than 60 vehicles were towed away on Wednesday.

To the article from 02.10.2019:

Weekly market on Blücherplatz brought forward from Thursday to Wednesday: over 60 vehicles were towed by the Blücher.
