Christmas Day 2021 at the Kiel Fjord, the sun is shining and there is some snow. A beautiful winter day, perfect for a walk along the Kiellinie. The Kiellinie in Kiel is a nearly three-kilometer-long promenade on the Kiel Fjord in the Düsternbrook district and extends from the Ostseekai to the naval base in Kiel. The promenade is particularly popular with locals and guests because of the hustle and bustle, especially during Kiel Week, the unobstructed view of incoming cruise ships and the very good view of the east bank of Kiel with the German Naval Yards and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), the earlier ones Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW). The Kiel line has ended in the Kiel-Wik district since 2014. It is lined on the land side by a row of boathouses from rowing clubs, canoeists and sailors, the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research and the Institute for the World Economy.
