Training trip abroad: The sailing training ship Gorch Fock is leaving its home port of Kiel on November 19th, 2021 for Lisbon, the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean Sea.
On November 19th, 2021 the time had finally come: after around six years of renovation, the sailing training ship Gorch Fock left its home port in Kiel on its first training trip abroad. The Gorch Fock left its berth at the Gorch-Fock-Mole in the Kiel-Wik naval base at 10 a.m. on Friday with a few days delay due to contaminated fresh water on board the sail training ship. Here the sail training ship passes the Kieler Förde at the Friedrichsort lighthouse on Falckensteiner Strand and the Laboe naval memorial on the opposite side of the Förde towards the Baltic Sea.
The first destination of the Gorch Fock is Lisbon in Portugal, where a short stopover will be made. From there the sailing training ship Gorch Fock sets a direct course to the Canary Islands with the destination Tenerife. In the further course of the foreign training trip, the Gorch Fock will sail towards the Mediterranean Sea in mid-January 2022 with destinations in Valencia and Malaga in Spain. At the end of March 2022, the Gorch Fock will then return to its home port in Kiel at the Kiel-Wik naval base.
