The Christmas market in Kiel 2021 opened on Monday, November 22nd. The four Christmas markets at Rathausplatz, Holstenplatz, Asmus-Bremer-Platz and Bernhard-Minetti-Platz in downtown Kiel sweeten the Advent season in the state capital.
Every year, the Kiel Christmas markets attract many visitors to downtown Kiel. Except last year, of course, when the Christmas markets did not take place in 2020 due to COVID-19. In some cases, the joy is all the greater that you can stroll through the 48th Kiel Christmas Market again this year and discover warm, sweet, hearty, maritime or even exotic things here and there.
And while other Christmas markets in Germany, especially in the south and south-east, have also been canceled this year, the state capital Kiel has a total of four Christmas markets to choose from in the city center, which are generally freely accessible.
The Kiel Christmas markets are open until December 23, 2021. And the Christmas market on Asmus-Bremer-Platz is even open beyond the Christmas holidays until December 30, 2021.
Christmas market in Kiel on Holstenplatz
No matter what the weather is like: Here at the Christmas market on Holstenplatz you can stroll around, drink a mulled wine, eat a bratwurst or, of course, find the right Christmas present at one of the numerous artisan stands. Due to the proximity to the Sophienhof shopping center and Holstenstraße, shopping and the Christmas market can be wonderfully combined.
Christmas Village on the Kiel City Hall Square
The Kiel Christmas Village offers, among other things, taverns and numerous huts, all in Nordic design. There are Feuerzangenbowle, Glögg, Nordic delicatessen specialties and much more at the stands. In addition, there are of course Christmas gift ideas, jewelery and Nordic handicrafts in the Kiel Christmas Village.
The highlight in the Kiel Christmas village on the town hall square is without question the imp Kilian and his Christmas cog. Here the Christmas elf Kilian flies on a tightrope over the Christmas market in the direction of the town hall tower. Gnome Kilian flies three times a day (at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.) in his mini cog, pulled by his reindeer, over the Kiel Christmas Village on the Rathausplatz.
Christmas market in Kiel on Asmus-Bremer-Platz
During the Christmas season, the Christmas pyramid, which is more than 12 meters high, can be seen from afar at the Kiel Asmus-Bremer-Platz Christmas market. Various hot drinks and of course cold drinks are offered here. Bratwurst, suckling pig, baked goods and a wide range of sweets await hungry Christmas market visitors at the stalls opposite.
Christmas market Bernhard-Minetti-Platz (Holtenauer Straße)
Holtenauer Straße also has its own Christmas market: At the Christmas market in Kiel Bernhard-Minetti-Platz, located directly on Holtenauer between Düppelstraße and Wrangelstraße, huts, a carousel and the 26-meter-high mulled wine pyramid invite you to linger.
