Christening of the MS Wik on June 28, 2022: Third plug-in hybrid ferry of the Kiel towing and ferry company christened on Tuesday afternoon on the Reventlou Bridge.

The two large SFK plug-in hybrid ferries MS Gaarden and MS Friedrichsort have been operating on the Kiel Fjord for some time. Soon, a third passenger ferry of the same design, also a modern plug-in hybrid ferry, will start service with the MS Wik. The new addition to the fleet of the Kiel Towing and Ferry Company (SFK) was christened on Tuesday afternoon by councilwoman Daniela Sonders (Greens).

After the ceremonial naming ceremony of the MS Wik at the Reventlou bridge, the maiden voyage on the fjord followed. Like the two plug-in hybrid ferries before it, the MS Wik, which has now been christened, was built in the Holland Shipyards BV shipyard in the Netherlands. On the occasion of the christening of the MS Wik, Marco Hoogendoorn, a representative of the shipyard, the Holland Shipyard Group, and, among others, the mayor of the city, Hans-Werner Tovar, and SFK managing director, Andreas Schulz, also took part in the ceremony.

And what’s more, another newcomer has recently reached the port of Kiel. The day before, the second e-ferry for the towing and ferry company arrived in the state capital. The electric ferry will be used on the F2 Schwentinie line in the future and is expected to be christened on August 22nd, 2022.
