Art collective Bœrn is giving away 100 hats on the Kiellinie: On Sunday there was a very special art event on the Förde, when 100 Bœrn beanies, individually designed hats, were given away.
The art collective Bœrn from Kiel has individually designed a total of 200 hats to give away to people in Kiel and Schleswig-Holstein. The aim of this special art campaign is to bring art into the public space on hats. For this art project, the art collective Bœrn, consisting of three artists, received funding from the state of Schleswig-Holstein. All of the 200 hats are unique and were designed with different surface techniques. For example, some of the Bœrn beanies have embroidery, while other hats are screen-printed or decorated with ceramics.
100 Bœrn Beanies given away at Kiellinie
This Sunday (02/27/2022) 100 of the Bœrn caps were given away at 1 p.m. at the Kiellinie right next to the Moby fish bar. A long queue had quickly formed at the Kiellinie. In some cases, walkers had joined the queue, who just happened to pass the Kiellinie at the Moby fish bar. Since the action by the Bœrn art collective was also communicated in advance in various media, numerous people from Kiel had also come to the Kiellinie because of the art collective’s art action.
Everyone who selected one of the hats also donned their new custom Bœrn Beanie for a photo on the spot. Some of these photos will probably also be available on the Bœrn Instagram account shortly.
By the way, the hats not only look great, they are also made from sustainable materials. The Bœrn hats consist of 80 percent certified organic cotton and 20 percent recycled polyester. The Bœrn cap shown below with the title “Abstract_07” is number 33 of 200 caps and was designed by Gregor Hinz.

About the art collective Bœrn
Bœrn Beanies! We are the art collective Bœrn: Susanne Nothdurft, Jana Koerth, Franziska Ludwig and Gregor Hinz. We received a grant from the state of Schleswig-Holstein to turn these hats into a big art campaign and you are now part of it! We have made this hat unique with our own hands and a little pictorial poetry, cataloged it and now you take care of the rest, wear it and send us a photo of it. So you are part of the whole, the hats are part of the whole, we are part of the whole and the visual poetry on the hats is also part of the whole. This creates a magical bond, despite the geographical distances. With your photo we pull these distances back together and post everything on Instagram. (Bœrn Kunstkollektiv, Feb. 2022)
