Videos: TORNADO / Windhose in Kiel on September 29th, 2021 – Severe weather on the Kiellinie waterfront promenade on the Kiel Fjord affects several people. Many injured by the tornado in Kiel.
Early Wednesday evening there was a large-scale operation on the Kiel Fjord after a tornado passed the popular Kiellinie promenade and the Kiel Fjord around 6 p.m. Luckily, the Kiellinie was relatively empty at that time without the otherwise numerous walkers and cyclists. After all, it had rained before. Nevertheless, there were numerous injuries. Several people were even thrown into the Kiel Fjord by the tornado, including rowers who were on the jetty. There was severe damage, including fallen trees, particularly on the Kiellinie near the seal pool.
After the tornado on the Kiellinie, the police and fire brigade were on duty for around two hours with over 50 emergency services. The tornado also caused a lot of damage on the east bank of Kiel in Gaarden and in Meimersdorf.
The German Weather Service (DWD) had announced heavy rain and storms for the state capital on Wednesday. However, it was not foreseeable in advance that such a tornado could form in Kiel, nor could it be predicted.
