Holtenauer Hochbrücke December 6th, 2022: Preparations for the opening of the Prinz-Heinrich-Bridge for traffic from Wednesday, December 7th, 2022.
Something is happening on Tuesday on the Prince Heinrich Bridge, one of the two Holtenau high bridges. From Wednesday, vehicles will be allowed to drive over the Holtenauer Hochbrücke again. However, only vehicles with a maximum weight of 3.5 tons and there will only be one lane in each direction. But now that both bridges have been completely closed to traffic (with the exception of cyclists) for almost a whole week, the opening of the Prinz Heinrich Bridge, even if only one lane in each direction, is definitely a start.
From Tuesday afternoon, numerous employees of the civil engineering office were busy setting up the new traffic routing. And there was plenty to do. Among other things, crash barriers had to be dismantled and beacons with flashing lights and traffic signs installed along the entire length of the bridge.
It is expected that from early Wednesday morning (December 7th, 2022), provided that the work progresses as planned, vehicles will be able to drive over the Holtenauer Hochbrücke again. Accordingly, it should start on Wednesday morning at 06.00 a.m. Vehicles can then cross the bridge in one lane in both directions daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. As further work on the bridge takes place at night, the Prinz-Heinrich-Bridge will initially only be open to traffic until 9 p.m.
However, the Olympic Bridge, the second of the Holtenau high bridges, was much more severely damaged in the collision with the crane boom on November 30, 2022. The Olympic Bridge will therefore remain completely closed for the time being.
