Kiel Christmas market: 2G regulation from December 4, 2021 on all Kiel Christmas markets. From Saturday, only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered are allowed to visit the Christmas market.
The Kiel Christmas markets on Rathausplatz (Kiel Christmas Village), Holstenplatz, Asmus-Bremer-Platz and Bernhard-Minetti-Platz (Holtenauer Straße) have been open since November 22nd and there have been no access restrictions so far. Every visitor had to wear a mask and the 2G rule only applied indoors, i.e. in tents and booths. From Saturday December 4th there will be new rules on the Christmas markets. Then the 2G rule applies to the entire Christmas market in Kiel, i.e. not only indoors as before. Accordingly, from Saturday only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered are allowed to visit the Christmas market. The reason for this are the new corona measures that were decided on Thursday at the federal-state summit.
The city of Kiel had already communicated when the Christmas markets opened that the rules for visiting the Christmas markets could change later and then, in addition to the mask requirement and 2G indoors, further restrictions would be implemented at short notice. And exactly this case will take place from Saturday to contain the infection process of COVID-19. Because the 2G rule will also apply nationwide from Saturday in retail (with the exception of supermarkets and shops for daily needs), i.e. also in almost all shops around the Christmas markets. And that’s why the city of Kiel is also restricting access to the Christmas markets from Saturday. The mask requirement at the Christmas markets and in Holstenstrasse between Holstenplatz and Dänischer Strasse and in Holtenauer Strasse between Dreieckplatz and Esmarchstrasse will remain in place.
In addition, other measures were decided that will apply from Saturday or December 15th. For example, new spectator limits apply to major events from Saturday, which also affect the home games of Holstein Kiel (Holstein Stadium) and THW Kiel (Wunderino Arena).
