Farmers’ protest in Kiel: Farmers demonstrate with a tractor convoy on January 8th, 2024 in downtown Kiel with hundreds of tractors, tractors, trucks and other vehicles.
There’s a lot going on in Kiel’s city center with sometimes severe traffic delays in Kiel and the surrounding area. On Monday morning, hundreds of tractors, trucks, tractors and other vehicles arrive in downtown Kiel and park on the Exerzierplatz. The central square was closed to parked cars on Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and served as a parking lot that day for participants in the protest, including hundreds of agricultural vehicles and trucks.
On Monday, January 8, 2024, tens of thousands of farmers, freight forwarders, trucking companies, craft businesses and other industries across Germany demonstrated against the loss of subsidies and rising costs, including the increase in the CO2 tax. There were also several actions with rallies and tractor convoys in Kiel. In total, around 1,400 tractors and other vehicles took part in the protests in Kiel. In addition to farmers, haulage companies, freight forwarders and craftsmen, among others, demonstrated and took part in the protest. The central gathering points in Kiel were on the Exerzierplatz and on Wilhelmplatz.

Towards the afternoon the meeting broke up again and the agricultural vehicles, tractors and trucks left the Exerzierplatz and Wilhelmplatz. Towards the evening, traffic in the city center and the KVG’s line operations were running according to plan again. According to the police, the protest was well organized and without any special incidents, with well over 1,000 vehicles taking part.
