Sail training ship Gorch Fock back in the home port of Kiel. After the first training trip abroad since years of renovation, the Gorch Fock arrived back in Kiel on March 25th, 2022.

The sail training ship Gorch Fock of the German Navy is back in Kiel at its main berth in the naval base in Kiel at the Gorch-Fock-Mole. On Friday, March 25, 2022, the sail training ship moored at the pier at 10 a.m. after a four-month voyage with stations on the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean. Several hundred family members of the crew, the Kiel Marine Music Corps and a few spectators along the Kiel line were there on Friday when the Gorch Fock returned to the state capital of Kiel.

Four months long journey and Corona cases

Last year, the sail training ship left the Kiel-Wik naval base on November 19, 2021 with the destination Canary Islands. The Gorch Fock was in the port of Santa Cruz on the Canary Islands over the Christmas period. And COVID-19 did not stop at the crew of the sail training ship. Due to some Corona cases on board, the training of the first cadets could not start as planned and had to be postponed.
