Sailing training ship Gorch Fock with Christmas lights in the Kiel naval base: For the first time in several years, the Gorch Fock is back in Kiel for Christmas.
The sail training ship is moored at the Gorch-Fock-Mole, illuminated by a large chain of lights. This has now been a tradition for several decades and around Christmas 2022 again with a Christmas tree on deck and a chain of lights. But the Gorch Fock had been in the shipyard for more than six years.
In recent years, not only the Gorch Fock, but also the other naval ships at the Kiel-Wik naval base have normally been decorated with chains of lights and shone around the clock. But this year, the German Navy is also trying to save energy. Therefore only the Gorch Fock is decorated with a chain of lights. The Christmas lights on the Goch Fock will shine from December 23, 2022 to January 2, 2023, daily from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Incidentally, the old light bulbs have had their day. As of this year, the chain of lights on the Gorch Fock consists of more energy-saving LED lamps.
