For months there have been traffic delays on the federal highway 503 in the area of ​​the Holtenau high bridges due to bridge work. On Monday afternoon (August 28), however, traffic came to a complete standstill on both sides. The reason was a four-hour blockage of the Holtenauer Hochbrücke from around 1:20 p.m. to 5:20 p.m., which mainly affected northbound traffic. Shipping traffic in the Kiel Canal was also suspended for several hours on Monday afternoon. Around noon, several emergency vehicles from the police, fire brigade and rescue service drove to an operation on the Olympic Bridge, which was only recently reopened to traffic. In the meantime, the Prinz-Heinrich-Bridge (currently one-lane passable towards the city) was completely closed, but was reopened to traffic after a while.<\/p>\n

Motorists heading north, on the other hand, were unable to drive on the high bridge between the districts of Wik and Holtenau for around four hours and had to take a detour via the Levensauer high bridge (Bundesstraße 76 towards Gettorf and Eckernförde) or the old Levensauer high bridge. Here, too, there were sometimes long traffic jams on the way out of town. Especially those who wanted to cross the canal via the Old Levensauer High Bridge needed a lot of patience this Monday afternoon. Traffic out of town had temporarily backed up in front of the bridge up to Eckernförder Straße corner Steenbeker Weg. Because there has also been a construction site on the old Levensau high bridge for some time, so that there are also traffic disruptions on this bridge.<\/p>\n
