Blasting of the power plant in Kiel: The steadfast boiler house did not collapse completely during the blast(s) on July 11, 2023. Again, not everything is going according to plan at the former coal-fired power plant on the east bank of Kiel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another blast at the decommissioned community power plant was planned for Tuesday, July 11, 2023. This blast should blow up the entire boiler house (the red building directly to the left of the high chimney). But the boiler house, or rather the right part of the boiler house, was more stable than expected. Because one part did not collapse as planned and remained standing despite the explosive charges attached.<\/p>\n

This was at 2:45 p.m. The demolition expert scheduled another blast at short notice for 4:00 p.m., which, however, was postponed to 5:40 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. a short time later. With the renewed explosion, the rest of the boiler house should finally collapse. But this blast was again unsuccessful. The part of the building that is still standing is the so-called filter house. The renewed explosion caused the building to shake, but it just didn’t want to tip over and collapse.<\/p>\n

Third attempt: Another blast on Wednesday morning<\/h2>\n

Another blast is planned for Wednesday morning (07\/12\/2023). It remains exciting to see whether the desired result can then be achieved with this blasting. The planned time window for the blasting on Wednesday is from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

About the power station on the east bank of Kiel<\/h2>\n

The joint power plant in Kiel (GKK) was in operation from 1970 to 2019. The power plant was operated jointly by Uniper and Stadtwerke Kiel. The coal-fired power plant, fired with imported hard coal, generated electricity and supplied more than 60,000 households with district heating. In 2019, the power plant was shut down and replaced by a modular gas engine power plant replaced.<\/p>\n
