The Ocean Race 2023 Fly-By Kiel: Imoca yachts in the Kiel Fjord<\/a>. The world-famous Ocean Race with Boris Herrmann stopped off in Kiel on June 9th, 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Friday afternoon, the five IMOCA yachts were on stage six for the fly-by in Kiel in the Kiel Fjord. During the fly-by in Kiel, the five yachts had to go around the turning mark, which was located in Kiel’s inner färde at Reventlouwiese, between Reventloubrücke and Ostseekai<\/a>. The 11TH HOUR from the 11th Hour Racing Team was the first yacht of the five teams to reach the Kiel Fjord and rounded the turning point. Hamburg-based Boris Herrmann, skipper and team leader of Team Malizia, reached the turning point at the fly-by in Kiel with his yacht MALIZIA Seaexplorer as the last of the five yachts taking part in the Ocean Race 2023.<\/p>\n

Stage six of the 2023 Ocean Race was the shortest stage at around 800 nautical miles. The IMOCA yachts set off from Aarhus (Denmark) on Thursday at 6 p.m. and arrived in Kiel for the fly-by on Friday afternoon. This was followed by another trip through the Baltic Sea, around Denmark into the North Sea towards the Netherlands. The destination of the sixth stage was The Hague in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Thousands of spectators along the Kiel Fjord did not want to miss this event. After all, it is now 21 years since the Ocean Race, back then with the legendary finish of the Illbruck and under the name Volvo Ocean Race, was a guest in Kiel.<\/p>\n

Photos and videos from the fly-by in Kiel with the Ocean Race yachts in the Kiel Fjord were taken from the lighthouse on Falckensteiner Strand. From here you had a very good view of the five passing yachts that took part in the Ocean Race 2023.<\/p>\n

    At the finish in The Hague, Boris Herrmann took third place with his Seaexplorer. In addition to thousands of spectators on land, around 2,000 boats and ships were also out and about in the Kiel Fjord. These were mostly private sailors, but there were also numerous ships, such as the paddle steamer Freya, on which escort trips were offered. Very similar to the accompanying trips that take place during the windjammer parade during Kiel Week.<\/p>\n
