Kiel Canal<\/a>: Last day for the MS Schwentine on the Holtenau-Wik route. From Wednesday, December 14, 2022, only the Adler I passenger ferry will be in service as the Kiel Canal ferry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since Monday it has become much quieter again at the two ferry docks in Holtenau and in the Wik. Because finally buses are allowed to drive over the Prince Heinrich Bridge again. And that also means that the KVG buses will no longer carry crowds of passengers every 10-15 minutes to the jetties on both sides of the canal. The demand from cyclists and pedestrians has thus returned to normal on the Kiel Canal ferry.<\/p>\n

The SFK ferry MS Schwentine was previously used on the route in the canal between the districts of Holtenau and Wik from Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to support the significantly smaller canal ferry Adler I. Especially in the first few days after the complete closure of both Holtenau high bridges on November 30th, 2022 due to an accident<\/a>, the rush at the canal ferry was immense and there were sometimes waiting times of more than two hours. Adler I is limited to 50 passengers per canal crossing, while up to 200 passengers are allowed to travel on the MS Schwentine.<\/p>\n

But since regular buses have been running over the high bridge again as scheduled, the services of the MS Schwentine are no longer required, and the current passenger volume can now be handled by the Adler I ferry again. The MS Schwentine therefore has its last day of operation in the Kiel Canal on Tuesday. From Wednesday the green and white canal ferry Adler I will be in operation as usual from morning to evening and will also return to the normal timetable. The Adler I ferry will then carry passengers daily from 06:30 to 22:00 across the Kiel Canal.<\/p>\n
