The winter storm “Tristan” causes flooding on the Kiellinie<\/a> Kiel and on the Tiessenkai in Holtenau in February 2021. There are also minus temperatures and a cold east wind. So far, however, hardly any snow has fallen in the state capital.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While other parts of Germany are literally sinking in snow, storm Tristan “only” brings an ice-cold east wind. But that leads to high water in the Kiel Fjord<\/a> and to flooding on the keel line between the Tirpitzhafen naval base and the Bellevue Bridge. This part of the area, where traffic runs directly along the promenade, was therefore partially closed to traffic. But floods are also currently being reported in other places in the state capital that border directly on the fjord. For example in Holtenau. Here it is the areas around the Tiessenkai and the Holtenau lighthouse that were slightly flooded on Monday.<\/p>\n

The waves here on the Kiellinie and in Holtenau are not as big as, for example, in Schilksee or on Falckenstein Beach during storm Tristan<\/a>, but there are currently unusually high waves in the Kiel inner fjord and even in the Kiel Canal<\/a> between the lock and Hochbrücken . And the floods combined with sub-zero temperatures and cold winds are causing the water to freeze. A sometimes thick layer of ice has already formed in the flooded areas on the Kiellinie and Tiessenkai.<\/p>\n
