The torch of the Olympic flame on the harbor master&rsquo;s viewing platform is a reminder of this today. Today the Schilksee Olympic Center with the Schilksee Olympic Harbor is the venue and sports harbor for the sailing competitions during Kiel Week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Located at the exit of the <a href=\"https:\/\/welovekiel.com\/en\/lexicon\/kiel-fjord\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Kiel Fjord<\/a>, the Olympic Center is in the northwest of the state capital Kiel in the district of Schilksee, the northernmost part of Kiel on the west bank of the Fjord. The entire building complex of the Olympic Center was erected in the early 1970s for the Olympic Games and consists of a large yacht harbor or marina, residential buildings, shops, restaurants, hotels and an indoor swimming pool.<\/p>\n<p>The marina in Schilksee is one of the largest on the German Baltic Sea coast.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer months, the Schilksee pier is used by the passenger ferries of the SFK (Towing and Ferry Company Kiel). South of the marina is the Schilksee beach and, a little further south, a steep coast. Schilksee beach and Schilksee cliffs are popular destinations. The Schilksee bathing beach is one of the most popular beaches in the Kiel city area.<\/p>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\">@media only screen and (max-width:800px)
