The entire area had to be renovated at great expense and contaminated sites had to be removed. Near the embankment in the direction of the Kiel Canal there is a 2.3 meter high viewing platform, also known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/welovekiel.com\/en\/lexicon\/wiker-balcony\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Wiker Balcony<\/a>, in the Kiel lock park.<\/p>\n<p>The park and viewing platform are located in the Wik district of Kiel, between Herthastrasse and the embankment above Uferstrasse, which runs parallel to the Kiel Canal. The park and viewing platform were built in 2011\/2012.
