DESCRIPTION:Kiel Week 2023: sailing\, summer festival\, ships and lots of concerts in the state capital Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein in the last full week of June 2023. \nThe Kiel Week is an annual sailing regatta that has been held in Kiel on the Kiel Fjord since the end of the 19th century. It is considered one of the largest sailing events in the world. In recent decades\, a folk festival has also developed on the quay walls of the tall ships\, although the core of the Kiel Week has always remained the sailing competitions. \nIn addition to the sporting aspects\, the Kiel Week includes an extensive program with over 2\,000 individual events\, including performances by international and regional bands and artists who offer live music in around 300 concerts on over 15 stages. \nThere are also performances by numerous local groups on smaller stages. DESCRIPTION:Kiel Week Windjammer Parade 2023 in the Kiel Fjord on June 24th\, 2023 – maritime highlight of the Kiel Week with over 100 participating sailing ships. \nThe windjammer parade in Kiel during Kiel Week is one of the highlights of the annual Kiel Week. When the windjammer parade takes place\, always on the last Saturday of Kiel Week\, tens of thousands of spectators are drawn to the west and east banks of the Kiel Fjord. \nWindjammer Parade 2023\nAs always\, the sailing parade started on Saturday\, June 24\, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Kiel’s inner fjord and set course for the Friedrichsort lighthouse and outer fjord. Of course\, there is also the opportunity to watch the windjammer parade from land\, for example from the Falckensteiner beach\, from the Holtenau lighthouse on the fjord or from the east bank of Kiel\, for example at the Möltenort submarine memorial. Of course\, sailing on one of the numerous participating ships will also be possible this year. \nDue to the corona pandemic / COVID-19\, the Kiel Week was postponed from June to September in 2020 and 2021\, so the windjammer parade also took place in September in these two years. Almost everything here revolves around hot air balloons and balloon rides\, especially in the evenings. And parachutists will also be seen over the Norder on several days. \nThe popular Night Glow takes place on a total of five evenings from 10:30 p.m. Then the balloon pilots with their balloons on the Nordmarksportfeld let the Nordmarksportfeld and the night light up together to the beat of the music. After the Night Glow\, there will be a spectacular fireworks display on a total of three evenings.
